Hp 17 x121dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Greetings,

Im having an issue with the display on my laptop (Hp 17 x121dx).  When Tap, touch , or move the laptop sometimes the screen flickers and blacks out . Depending on the amount of movement sometimes the laptop will go to sleep. This is a random occurrence but I'm almost sure i can get it on video. Sometimes certain videos will trigger the flickering without the display being moved or touched.  I did a little research and found something regarding the flex screen cable. Can anyone help me with this issue ?

Thanks

Xavier

Hi Xavier,

Yes, it could be the cable or the actual screen panel itself. If you attach the PC to an external monitor/TV does the flickering also occur on the external screen?

The cable has part number 856608-001 and you can try with an online search with part number or here in HP parts store

https://parts.hp.com/hpparts/Search_Results.aspx?mscssid=B7A9ABF1997F483E83044B2F32B62A16&SearchIn=P...

The part number for the screen is 851051-002

Example:

However, if you need to replace the screen you could also upgrade to a FHD screen (fro the HD+ screen you have at the moment) with part number 798926-007

Example:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=798926-007&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0...

On page 37 and 70 of service manual you can see the various steps:

Hope it helps,

David

I used cast technology to test it on an external monitor.  I'm not sure if this test works just as a hard wire would but the external screen showed great while the laptop monitor flickered . Should I try with a hard wire to an external monitor? Is there a test that will determine if the issue is with the cable or the display itself  ?

Thanks for your help !
