HP 22er 21.5-inch Display

My 22er monitor has been great and working well. My son-in-law had an HP 22cwa display that wasn't working for him and asked me to see if I could find out why. I connected it to my HP Spectre laptop and it didn't work for me either. When I reconnected my 22er monitor it now doesn't work. When I plug in the HDMI it does wake the monitor but then doesn't recognize and goes to sleep. I can connect to a Samsung and Dell monitor just fine but not the 22er. I connected it to a raspberry pi and the 22er monitor works fine. I have reinstalled drivers on my laptop, and ran all of the suggested HP software to try and get this to work again but have not been successful. I know my cable is good, even though I have tried others as well as trying the VGA on the monitor and Display port on my PC, and I know the monitor works as mentioned above. Let me know what else I can do.

I have a similar problem (same cause, different manifestation), but with a HP Envy laptop, product ID 00325-96105-62169-AAOEM running under Windows 10 64-bit.  I connected a different monitor rather than my usual HP22er monitor.  The other monitor was a new HP M22f and and the screen was very 'washed out' (lines round the edges of MS Office products not there, poor quality to the letters, gridlines in Excel invisible even though the same document was showing fine on the laptop screen.  I sent back the new monitor and plugged in the old monitor (HP 22er) and behold, the 22er has the same problem as the M22f.  I have done a full clean of the laptop with CC Clean, including registry, but to no avail.  I hope you can help as the monitor is giving me migraine-like symptoms.

I have followed the procedure you have listed and still have the same results. The display awakes from sleep when I reconnect to the laptop but then goes straight to sleep mode.

The HP 22er monitor is going to sleep not my laptop. The HP 22er monitor awakes from sleeping when HDMI cord is plugged into my laptop but will then enter sleep mode while my laptop doesn't recognize the monitor in which it used to.
