The screen flickers and horizontal lines appear across it, and eventually, it fades to a completely white screen with a faded, frozen image of whatever was last on display.

When plugged into an external display via HDMI cable, it is displayed just fine, so I don't think it's a graphics card issue. Also, the screen flickering persists in BIOS, so again I don't think it's a graphics card or driver issue.

The flickering stops and it works perfectly fine when I tilt the top left corner of the laptop display towards me, which led me to believe it's an issue with a broken display cable. I have since replaced this display cable 3 times, and each time the same problem persists. Also when I put the screen bevel on, the flickering gets worse and the screen completely freezes, so it must not like the pressure around the edge that the bevel produces.

I know the routing of this cable is very delicate and particular, but I have followed the maintenance and service manual and am quite confident I have been installing it correctly each time (however, I admit I could be wrong, but I don't want to pay the £472 replacement fee HP quoted me when the laptop only cost £450!).

Today I disconnected the display from the body and laid it flat on the keyboard, and when the flickering started, I applied pressure to one half of the screen and this stopped the flickering. When applying pressure to the laptop body where I was doing so to stop the flickering previously, it did not stop the flickering. Therefore, I am now wondering if it's an issue with the connector on the display itself and not the display cable. Is it worth replacing the display to fix this issue once and for all? I am really bored of replacing the display cable, so am leaning towards this option, despite the cost 😅

Thanks to anyone who is still with me 😊
