I am experiencing a persistent issue with the built‑in HP 5MP Camera on my HP OmniBook 7. The camera turns on and off repeatedly every 2 seconds, showing a black screen, and the LED indicator flashes in sync. I also receive the error message: “Camera Error – 5MP Camera is not responding.”

Hi @amag841,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that your HP notebook’s built-in 5MP camera is a supported integrated component, and the camera light turns on when one or more cameras are in use. On some HP models, there is also a camera privacy control/key that can turn the camera off and on. If the camera is repeatedly cycling on/off with a black screen and showing “5MP Camera is not responding,” this points to a camera function problem, but the provided documents do not include a model-specific repair procedure for that exact error.

  • Your HP notebook may include an integrated 5MP camera and camera light behavior tied to camera activity.

  • Some HP notebooks include a camera privacy feature/key that can disable or enable the camera.

  • You can check installed hardware through Device Manager:

    • Select the Search icon in the taskbar

    • Type Device Manager

    • Open the Device Manager app

  • You can also check installed software/apps:

    • Right-click Start

    • Select Apps and Features or Installed Apps

If your camera is flashing every 2 seconds and showing a black screen:

  • Check whether your notebook has a camera privacy key and toggle it once.

  • Open Device Manager to confirm the camera is detected by Windows.

  • Check whether the camera privacy light indicates the camera is disabled (on supported models, privacy light behavior is documented).

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
