Microsoft Windows 11

On my HP Omnibook X 2-in-1, my webcamera is incredibly washed out and incorrectly colored. Even in bright lighting my skin is grey. Is there anything that can be done to disable any possible processing that make my camera this way? Are there drivers? Please help.

Hi @newsuper,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Omnibook X 2-in-1’s 5 MP camera looks washed out and shows incorrect colors, even in good lighting. Let’s go through a few steps to check what’s causing the issue and how to correct the image quality.

Check for camera driver updates

Press Windows + X → Device Manager.

Expand Cameras or Imaging devices and right-click your HP camera (for example, HP TrueVision or HP 5MP Camera).

Choose Update driver → Search automatically for drivers.

If none are found, visit https://support.hp.com, enter your exact model name, and install the latest Camera or Image Signal Processor drivers listed.

Update HP Support Assistant and Windows

Open HP Support Assistant → My devices → Updates, and install all recommended system, BIOS, and driver updates.

Then go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates to ensure Windows has the latest camera-related improvements.

Adjust camera settings in the Camera app

Open the Camera app → click Settings (gear icon).

Try toggling Pro mode or Brightness/Contrast manually.

Set Brightness and Contrast near mid-range and test again.

Disable auto image enhancements

Open Device Manager → Cameras → [HP Camera] → Properties → Driver → Driver Details.

If you see an HP-specific driver (not Microsoft’s “USB Video Device”), open the HP Camera Control or HP Image Signal Processor utility (found in Start Menu).

Inside, look for Auto Exposure, Auto White Balance, or Image Enhancement options and toggle them off.

Reinstall the camera driver

In Device Manager, right-click the camera and select Uninstall device, then restart your PC.

Windows will reinstall the correct driver automatically.

If it reinstalls as a generic USB Video Device, manually install the HP-specific camera driver from HP Support Assistant.

I hope this helps.
