I can't connect my new HP desktop to my Acer projector. The projector is working fine and the same HDMI cable works on my laptop so issue is with the desktop.

I've managed to partially connect by going to display settings and clicking "identify". This sometimes replicates the display on the projector but the picture is very jumpy and full of  'static' and only stays for a few seconds.

Hoping this is something I can resolve through software updates as I've bought the computer to use as a multimedia hub to through the projector screen. Would be really frusutrating if there's an incompatiblity that wasn't clear before buying.

I can't find the specs of your machine but it may have the following ports at its back

  • DC Power input: 1
  • RJ-45 connector: 1
  • HDMI in: 1
  • HDMI out: 1
  • USB 3.0 port: 3
  • USB 3.1 Type-C port: 2
  • SD card reader: 1
  • Audio jack: 1

As you can see, it has BOTH HDMI in and out therefore you have to connect external display to HDMI out port. Also please check Acer projector, it may require special set up.

Regards.
