HP Chromebook with Acer External Monitor Not Working

HP Recommended
HP Chromebook 14-db0090nr
Chrome OS

I have connected an Acer series 3 monitor to my HP Chromebook.  It was working in extended mode fine until I hit the "Mirror Display" checkbox.  Now I can not get the extended mode back.  When I try to click on the check box I get an error telling me that my chromebook and monitor are not getting along.

I have tried the following:

1.  hardware reset

2.  connected the monitor to another chromebook (same make/model) and it worked

3.  connected a 2nd monitor of the same make/model to this chromebook and I had the same issue

4.  connected a different monitor to this chromebook and it worked

Thanks!

Hi@rflanagan, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Have you tried checking with a different HDMI cable?

Try checking with a different monitor or different cable and check if it helps.

As you are able to use the monitor with Xbox. It certainly sounds like an issue with the Chromebook. Please contact Acer support for more assistance.

However, you can try a few steps recommended below for Chromebook and check if it helps.

  1. At the bottom right, select the time.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. In the "Device" section, select Displays.
  4. Select Mirror Internal Display. Your screen will show on all connected monitors.

Tip: To view your Chromebook screen only on your monitor, press, and hold a Decrease in brightness.

Adjust your screens

  1. At the bottom right, select the time.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. In the "Device" section, select Displays.
  4. To adjust your Chromebook screen, select Internal Display. To adjust your monitor screen, select the name of the monitor.
    • Make items on your screen smaller or larger: In the "Display size" section, choose an option.
    • Rotate the screen: In the "Orientation" section, choose an option.
  5. [Optional] Under your monitor tab, you can also:
    • Change screen sharpness: In the "Resolution" section, choose an option.

Tip: To quickly move windows or apps from one screen to another, on your keyboard, press Search Search Alt + m.
