HP Compaq 6730b notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Notebook updated to win10 a long time ago but was not aware of touchpad problem as I used a USB mouse.

I now find that the left click onboard mouse button doesn't work. Also the extended touchpad operations don't work, such as tap to click & scroll. Note that the mouse pointer moves via the touchpad and the right click button works as normal.

I have installed the latest synaptics touchpad driver (ver. 15.0.17.2) from HP website which is actually a win7 driver.

Update, it looks like a hardware issue as when I put the original hard drive in and booted to XP the touchpad showed the same problem. I assume that it used to work. I’ve had the notebook since new and it has had very little use and still looks brand new. What can go wrong with the touchpad?

Is there any hope of a fix for this issue?

Thanks.

Update.

I don't think there is a hardware issue with the touchpad and buttons. If I change the synaptics pointing device setting to left handed, the right button works as left click, and funnily enough, tap to select works. However after a while it seems to freeze the application that I'm in.

I've updated the BIOS to the latest version with no difference.

Anyway guys, it seems to be a software/driver issue, that also exists in win XP (note, I booted from an old hard drive that still has the original XP installation on).

Any ideas welcome. Thanks.

I've found that I can use the right click by setting it to left handed (see pic). Not sure if the pic posted. I would still like a proper fix though, if possible.

Is there any help out there guys?
