I had a HP Envy that I replaced with a HP OmniBook 7 Laptop.  I previously used a Thunderbolt Dock to communicate to a second HP screen, plug in an external drive for backups, etc.  Will that Thunderbold Dock work with the new laptop?  Are there any special tips?

At another location, I recently purchased a HP Universal Dock G2 for the same purpose but the monitor is a HP OMEN QHD 165 Hz monitor.  Is that dock compatible with my new laptop?

Hi @cscommunity,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Please note the HP OMEN QHD 165 Hz monitor should be able to connect to the HP Universal Dock G2 if the dock supports the necessary video output standards used by the monitor. For high refresh rate outputs such as 165 Hz at QHD resolution, ensure that the dock and connecting cables support sufficient bandwidth requirements (such as DisplayPort 1.2 or HDMI 2.0).

Laptop Compatibility: The dock typically connects to laptops via USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 ports. Ensure that your laptop has the appropriate port and that it supports data, video, and power delivery through this connection.

Performance Considerations: When using high refresh rates like 165 Hz, ensure that both your dock and laptop are capable of supporting the required data transmission rates. For some configurations, reduced refresh rates might be necessary when using certain docks.

USB and Other Peripheral Support: The dock will also provide additional ports for USB devices, network connections, and audio. Double-check whether these features meet your needs based on your laptop's port availability.

And Yes, the HP Universal Dock G2 is generally compatible with your HP OmniBook 7 Laptop. It will work for connecting peripherals and displays, including your HP OMEN QHD 165 Hz monitor.

I hope this helps.
