HP ENVY 15-J140na Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi There

I have a HP ENVY 15-j140na Notebook PC. My screen comes on and off with blurred lines or a blank white screen but when it is wedged in the corner and not moved it works fine.

1. Please can you tell me if the screen on this laptop is 30 or 40 pin

2. If I replaced the screen cable with a Hp 15-J051EA 15-J screen cable 6017B0416401 720556-001 ( seen on this Ebay page https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302780205934 ) would this solve my problem or do I need to replace the screen

The Serial No of the machine is 5CG4393Z7K

The Product No. is J0B97EA #ABU

I saw your answers to MPalSingh and thought them very useful.

The existing screen is a 15.6-in, BrightView, FHD, LED, non-TouchScreen display assembly 720552-001

The list below is from the user guide for this model

Description                                                                                     Spare part number

Thanks

Its 40 pin. Odds are actually very small that its the cable. Much more likely to be the panel.

Hi Huffer,

Thanks for the reply. Knowing it is 40 pin is very helpful.  I am in London, UK so would need to find a supplier closer to London.

The panel itself seems to be fine - with a wedge in the corner the screen works normally.  Speaking to the PC repair shop they say the wires at the hinge are normally what wear out with the opening and closing of the screen.

Can the 40 pin connection cable be replaced?  If so:

If I replaced the screen cable with a Hp 15-J051EA 15-J screen cable 6017B0416401 720556-001 ( seen on this Ebay page https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302780205934 ) would this possibly solve my problem.  Or do I need a different cable?  I am more than willing to pay to experiment with the replacement of the correct cable as this idea may help others.

I am not saying its impossible its the screen cable. If you see problems with the hinge that may have worn out the cable but what often happens is the screen has a failure where the cable connects into the screen. When that happens you will be able to get the screen to come on and off by moving it, but replacing the cable will not help.

Still the cable is cheaper and you can try replacing it first.

Let us know how it goes. Once you try the screen cable and if it does not solve the problem we can find you a screen. Note the screen maker part number. If you search by that instead of the HP Part number you can often find it cheaper.

Please accept as solution if this is the info you needed.
