Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello! Today I turned on my HP ENVY dv7 notebook pc and I saw that display (the screen) is blank, power indication light is on, fan is also working, wifi light is also on but caps lock key is blinking in a loop again and again. I have tried reseating the RAM sticks and examining all of the board but I can't figure out anything. Can anyone help? I'm a student and I need to work on it urgently.

Hi  @Mahad_Khan

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out. I understand how important your notebook is, especially when you need it for your studies. I'll be glad to help.

The continuous Caps Lock LED blinking on HP notebooks is often a diagnostic indicator that can help identify which hardware component may need attention.

Additionally, I would appreciate if you could help with a few details:

  • How many times does the Caps Lock light blink before the pattern repeats? (For example: 2 blinks, 3 blinks, 5 blinks, etc.)
  • Did you notice any recent hardware changes?
  • When you power on the notebook, do you hear the hard drive spinning or any beep sounds?

In the meantime, kindly try the following steps and confirm :

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter
  2. Press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds.
  3. Reconnect only the AC adapter and attempt to start the notebook.
  4. Disconnect any external devices such as USB drives, printers, docking stations, or external monitors.
  5. If available, connect an external display or monitor using HDMI/VGA and check whether any image appears there.
  6. Observe the Caps Lock blink sequence carefully and note the exact number of blinks before it repeats.

The blink code count is especially important because it helps determine whether the issue may be related to memory, BIOS, graphics, processor, or another hardware component.

I hope this helps.
