I have an HP EliteBook 855 G7 with a Ryzen 5 Pro 4650U processor and integrated GPU, and I'm experiencing a weird screen flickering issue. The laptop works normally, but sometimes the screen randomly flickers, turns off for a second, or part of the screen goes black briefly before returning to normal.

This issue happens more frequently when the laptop is running on battery power (not plugged into the charger). I’ve tried different operating systems, updated drivers, and BIOS versions, but nothing has fixed the problem. Interestingly, when I connect the laptop to an external monitor, the issue doesn’t occur.

Has anyone else experienced something similar or have any idea what might be causing this?

Hi @aljosaz ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing screen flickering, especially when running on battery power, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

  1. Hardware Reset:

    • Perform a hard reset to clear any temporary conflicts within the system. Instructions for a hard reset include:
      • Turn off your computer and disconnect all devices.
      • Unplug the AC adapter.
      • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
      • Reconnect the battery and AC adapter, then start the computer again.

  2. Chipset ,Graphics Drivers and Bios Drivers: As you told you have tried updating it, make sure driver version in device manager for graphhics should match with hp website drivers version.

  3. Energy Settings:

    • Adjust the power settings on your laptop. Sometimes flickering can be tied to power-saving features:
      • Go to Control Panel > Power Options, and ensure the plan is set to Balanced or Performance.
      • Disable settings that might affect the display or the graphic card's performance under battery mode.
  4. Display Settings:

    • Adjust the screen refresh rate:
      • Right-click the desktop > Display settings > Advanced display settings, and try different refresh rates.

  5. Isolate Lcd cable: Try to move laptop screen back and forth if flickers appears then for sure lcd cable is faulty otherwise lcd panel.
  6. HP Diagnostic Tools:

    • Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for any hardware failures (details can be found in the related section above).

Hope this helps resolve your issue.
