Hi there, I have an issue with non-responsive Brightness Adjustment on my laptop.

Symptom is that brightness does not increase or decrease when adjusting the setting using the FN Key + F9/F10 which are the designated buttons to adjust. There is also no change when I unplug from power outlett (which in theory should make the screen brightness come down).

I have installed the latest bio, and have tried looking for new software/drivers, but to no avail... I simply can't reduce the brightness (and it's quite bright - to the point it is uncomfortable to use at night).

Suggestions how to handle?

Hi ruleman,

Sounds like it may be an issue with an out of date HotKey Driver. Here's the link for that driver for your unit:

http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5271102&swItemId=ob_135423_1&swEnvOid=405...

Additionally, you can also adjust the brightness settings from within Windows. You can do this by opening Power Options from the Control Panel. Here are the instructions for doing so, straight from Microsoft:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows7/how-do-i-make-the-display-on-my-laptop-brighter

"Open Power Options by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Security, and then clicking Power Options.

Move the slider next to Screen brightness at the bottom of the screen. The brightness changes automatically."

Hope this helps!

This worked like a charm! It did require an additional update that I was easily able to install from Windows 10 updates by following the on screen prompts. One note, the link above took me to a generic customer support page. The link below is to the drivers page where I found the HP Hotkey Support driver under Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices. ALso, this driver update requires a reboot. The second update prompt came up after reboot on my Windows 10 HP Folio EliteBook 9470m. The second update did not require a reboot.

After installing the updated driver (and additional update), I was able to change the screen brightness by holding the fn key while pressing the f9 and f10 keys to adjust brightness.
