Hello. I am trying to decide on a second monitor to connect to my HP Envy laptop but am having some difficulty. I am a bit 'ffick' about such things if I'm honest 😞 and have already wasted a few quid on cables that don't seem to work, such as a HDMI to VGA with which I was thinking I could, via the HDMI adaptor that came with the laptop, link to my ancient PC Monitor (as soon as I even connect the HDMI side to the adaptor the laptop just switches itself off and on constantly and makes a horrible beeping noise), so I'm looking for other options. I HAVE managed to link the laptop to our main TV wirelessly but that is not suitable for my business requirements.
So, I spoke to a very helpful assistant at HP just now who said that if my laptop has a display port, the HP P24H monitor would be compatible.....however now I'm not so sure my laptop actually HAS a display port ??
Any tips, help that anyone can give would be gratefully received as time is of the essence and I don't seem to be getting anywhere fast.....🙄

Here is the HP spec sheet for your model laptop: https://support.hp.com/th-en/document/c06639163
As you can see under External Ports, it has DisplayPort v1.4.
