Envy x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have HP ENVY x360 m6 Convertible, Windows 10 Home 64-bit Version: 17763.503.

Can someone tell me or point me to information that tells what all the F key functions are, F1 - F12.

Also, what does the "fn" key do?

Thank you to all who respond.

Hello @MichellePR,

Generally speaking, this would be how the Fn key layout would look like:Capture.PNG

If there's a big discrepancy between this image and your own keyboard, let me know by providing me your specific model name or product number. E.g. HP Spectre x360 - 13-ap0028ca or 5MT98UA#ABL

Information on how to find a laptop's model name or product number is detailed in this HP document. (Please do not post serial numbers on the HP Support Community. The difference between a product number and a serial number is that the product number contains a # sign)

F1 (Question Mark) is generally the Help Key which, upon pressing, will launch a Help Document pertaining to the application you're using or just Windows Help in general.

F2 and F3 are for brightness up and down keys.

F4 is to change your display projection type. So if you have another monitor, that'll be helpful for changing projection types.

F5 is for toggling the backlit keyboard and may not be available on all models.

F6 = Mute volume

F7 and F8 are for controlling volume in increments of 2 values.

F9, F10, and F11 are for controlling a track in a music application such as Spotify. You can pause/play and go back or forward a track.

F12 is toggling Airplane Mode which essentially turns off and on all wireless connections such as Wifi or Bluetooth.

Note that these functions will all work without holding down Fn first which is in Action Key Mode Enabled. If you prefer having to hold down the Fn keys first to access those functions, you can use this guide on turning on and off Action Key Mode If Action Key Mode is enabled, holding down Fn and using the keys will conduct actions pertaining to whatever application you're currently on and differ from whatever is pictured on those keys, and vice versa.

Hopefully I didn't make it very confusing,

Eddy
