HP ENVY dv7-7259nr Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi. i have a HP ENVY DV7-7259nr laptop. It has a Interl i7 processor and a 2gb GT 630M and 2gb Intel HD 4000 gpu.

It was working fine as i was getting 30+ fps in arma 3 ad other games. But then suddenly 2 months ago, my fps during all games dropped to 10. I thought it was something to do with windows update, so i uninstalled the last window update but nothing changed. Also my mouse touch pad stopped working and keyboard started acting up. the right most row of numpad is not working at all and keyboard doesnt work most of time when i start the windows. (everytime i had to do that holding power button thing to make it work).

After that i tried uninstalling and reinstalling Nvidia driver but same situation. I also tried all the versions of nvidia drivers but nothing worked.

Then i tested by disabling the gt 630m and fps goes back to 30, but while playing arma 3, the game freezes after few minutes

I tried reinstalling windows 10 again, but nothing. I tried both windows 7 and 8, same situation.

I even hard reset my pc and removed everything from HDD. Cleaned the fan but same problems.

If any of you guys help me, i would be highly thankful.... I have tried many forums and solutions but all in vain.

Thanks

@Makarove Due to the current global COVID-19 situation, we're seeing an influx of customers coming in for support and we appreciate your patience.

That said, there are many ways to increase FPS and system performance:

  • Update the BIOS.

For notebook PCs, go to HP Notebook PCs - Updating the BIOS

  • Update the graphics driver.

Go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, enter your PC model, then select the driver for your graphics card.

  • Most games allow you to change the graphics settings. Using a lower graphic quality often improves FPS.

  • Close any applications or programs that are not being used.

  • Turn on Game Mode. Game Mode is a new feature in Windows 10 Creators Update that improves gaming performance by limiting background processes and programs from using system resources while a game is running.

    1. Press the Windows key and G to open the Game bar.

    2. In the game bar, click Settings.

    3. Click the check box next to the game title to enable Game Mode for that game.

Plug notebook PCs into an AC adapter to give the graphics card more power.

Thank you for the reply.

I have already tried BIOS uodate. The latest bios version is F.2E for which there is no upgrade available on Hp website.

I have also tried the Nvidia control panel settings for individual program. Nothing works.

I will try the game mode and will let you know.

Alright. I tried using game mode. But didnt see any change in performance. I have tested the gpu clock and its load while running Arma3 and warthunded, and it is getting used fully but fps doesnt go beyond 10 even on lowest settings. Temperature of gpu is normal (67-75 degrees). When i used Nvidia Inspector, it showed 100 percent gpu usage while the "MCU" usage was at 5 percent. I dont know what MCU is.

Also when i open "dxdiag" console, it shows "Display 1" (for intel hd4000) and "Render" window. In render window, it does shows dedicated video memory of GT630M.

Again, the intel gpu runs arma3 at 24 fps at lowest setting. But its not that smooth as compared to GT630M.

@Makarove I must let you know that HP does not recommend using 3rd party tools to benchmark the device as they may not be accurate and also, that this isn't a device designed for gaming, it's designed for everyday computing, if you wish to use a device for gaming alone, I suggest you look at our HP Omen series of products and get an upgrade.

That said, we can provide limited support with regards to performance improvements and if none of our previous recommendations have helped, we suggest you perform a hardware test using HP recommended tools:

Install the latest version of the HP Hardware diagnostics (UEFI) on your device using this link: Click here for details

Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.

Click Extensive Test.

Click Run once, or Loop until error.

While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.

If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.

Thank you. Is this the RAM memory or GPU memory?

Thanks. By the way is it RAM memory?
