I just got a new HP Envy x360 with Windows 10 (64 bit) OS. I was using a Compaq LA2405wg monitor on my old HP PC, running Windows 7. I bought an HDMI to VGA converter and attached my monitor to the HDMI port. The system displays to the monitor, but is skewed to the left (about 10-15% is not displayed) and the display does not use the entire area of the external monitor. I used the buttons on the monitor and moved the screeen over a bit (image control->horizontal position), but I am still not getting it all. There does not seem to be a Windows 10 driver for the monitor. Any suggestions?

Hi:
Windows 10 should have installed a driver for your monitor.
If for some reason it didn't, use the latest driver available from the support page.
I have the same monitor as you do, I'm running W10, and it shows up under the monitors device manager category as a LA2405wg.
I think you should have purchased an HDMI to DVI cable, or an HDMI to Display Port cable.
I don't believe HDMI to VGA works right, because you are trying to convert a digital signal to analog.
HDMI to DVI, or HDMI to Display port are digital>digital and you should have no issues with either of those.
Our monitor has VGA, DVI and Display Port connections.

Paul,
Thanks.
When you say the latest driver on the HP support page, they are listed by OS and not by version. Can you be more specific. I have a DVI cable. I will get an adapter and hopefully that alone will solve the problem.
Thanks for the response.

You're very welcome, Mel.
First confirm that the monitor driver is not installed.
Go to the device manager, and click to expand the Monitors device category.
If the monitor driver is installed, you will see a HP LA2405wg monitor listed there and there would be no need to install the driver.
Now, the x360 is a notebook PC, correct? The notebook's display panel will be listed as a Generic PnP monitor as well, so make sure you are selecting the right one to update the driver for.
If you see a Generic PnP monitor listed there, then the driver is not installed, and you would need to manually install this driver...the one for Windows 7, which I have zipped up and attached below.
To manually install the driver, download and unzip the driver file I attached to its folder.
Do not do anything with the files in the folder.
Go to the device manager, click to expand the Monitors device manager category, and click on the Generic PnP monitor.
Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.
Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder you unzipped.
Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.
Then restart the PC.
