Hi @JudyC74
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Envy x360's camera software or drivers may have encountered an issue. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue:
1. Restart the Laptop
- Simply restart your laptop to refresh the system and close any programs or processes that might be interfering with the camera.
2. Check for Camera Access
- Make sure that no other applications are using the camera. If another app is using it, it can cause freezing in other apps.
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for any apps or background processes that might be using the camera.
3. Re-enable the Camera
- Go to Device Manager:
- Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Imaging Devices section.
- Right-click on the camera (usually listed as "HP Wide Vision HD Camera" or similar).
- Select Disable device, wait a moment, then right-click and select Enable device.
- This might reset the camera and clear any freezing issue.
4. Update Camera Drivers
- In Device Manager, right-click the camera device again and choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software. If an update is found, let it install.
- If no updates are found, visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your HP Envy x360.
5. Check Privacy Settings
- Sometimes, privacy settings can block apps from accessing the camera.
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.
- Make sure Allow apps to access your camera is turned on.
- Scroll down and ensure the app you’re using is allowed access.
6. Reset Camera App Settings
- If you’re using the Camera app to access the camera, try resetting it:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features.
- Find the Camera app and click on it, then choose Advanced options.
- Scroll down and click Reset to reset the app.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
