Hello, the camera on my HP ENVY x360 laptop seems to be frozen. When I open it, the screen sits with a new frozen image.

Hi @JudyC74

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Envy x360's camera software or drivers may have encountered an issue. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue:

1. Restart the Laptop

  • Simply restart your laptop to refresh the system and close any programs or processes that might be interfering with the camera.

2. Check for Camera Access

  • Make sure that no other applications are using the camera. If another app is using it, it can cause freezing in other apps.
  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and check for any apps or background processes that might be using the camera.

3. Re-enable the Camera

  • Go to Device Manager:
    1. Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
    2. Expand the Imaging Devices section.
    3. Right-click on the camera (usually listed as "HP Wide Vision HD Camera" or similar).
    4. Select Disable device, wait a moment, then right-click and select Enable device.
  • This might reset the camera and clear any freezing issue.

4. Update Camera Drivers

  • In Device Manager, right-click the camera device again and choose Update driver.
  • Select Search automatically for updated driver software. If an update is found, let it install.
  • If no updates are found, visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your HP Envy x360.

5. Check Privacy Settings

  • Sometimes, privacy settings can block apps from accessing the camera.
  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.
  • Make sure Allow apps to access your camera is turned on.
  • Scroll down and ensure the app you’re using is allowed access.

6. Reset Camera App Settings

  • If you’re using the Camera app to access the camera, try resetting it:
    1. Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features.
    2. Find the Camera app and click on it, then choose Advanced options.
    3. Scroll down and click Reset to reset the app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you so much Rachel, I had tried a few of these already but have just disabled and re-enabled the camera and seems to have worked. Really grateful thank you 🙂
