HP 620 FHD Webcam
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hi,

I plugged in my webcam and nothing happened. I checked the device manager and it shows as a USB composite device and I cannot download a driver from HP as I should have a universal one.

How can I get the correct driver or fix this so i can use the webcam?

Thanks

Hi @M_W_G,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue with your HP FHD 620 Webcam on Windows 10.

Update the USB Composite Device Driver:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Locate the USB Composite Device under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  • Right-click on it and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Click on Check for updates and install any available updates.

Reinstall the Webcam Driver:

  • In Device Manager, right-click the USB Composite Device and select Uninstall device.
  • Unplug the webcam and then plug it back in. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

Install Generic Webcam Driver:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Right-click the USB Composite Device and select Update driver.
  • Choose Browse my computer for driver software.
  • Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
  • Choose USB Video Device and click Next. This will install a generic driver that should work with most webcams.

HP Support Assistant:

  • Download and install the HP Support Assistant from the HP website.
  • Run the HP Support Assistant to check for any available drivers or updates specific to your HP hardware.

Check Webcam Privacy Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.
  • Make sure the option Allow apps to access your camera is turned on.
  • Scroll down and ensure that the apps you want to use the webcam with have camera access enabled.

Try a Different USB Port:

  • Sometimes the USB port itself may be the issue. Try plugging the webcam into a different USB port on your computer.

Use HP's Official Drivers:

  • Even though you mentioned that you couldn't find a specific driver from HP, it might be worth checking the HP Support website again for any new updates or drivers specific to your webcam model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
