I have a new laptop that last week I was told wouldn't display to HDMI monitors via the USB-C hub that I had purchased.  HP support told me that I needed to buy a HP USB-C G5 docking station and that would fix my issues.  I purchased that docking station upon HP recommendation (it's a pricey item), and I still cannot display multiple monitors properly.  I keep getting notifications on my computer that my "display port" has limited function.  I CAN get both of them to work if I connect one monitor directly to my HDMI port on my computer, but the only way I can use the other display is if I connect the other monitor via an HDMI to USB-A adapter, then connect that adapter to a USB-A port on the docking station.  I'm not clear on why I can't connect directly via the HDMI port directly.  I've even purchased an HDMI to DisplayPort adapter, but that doesn't work either.  The HDMI to USB-A connection is slow (it lags) and it's difficult to work with, so I really would like to use the HDMI without the adapter.  Looking for help.  Again...HP support SPECIFICALLY told me that this G5 docking station would solve the problem.

@Bill_P_Sparky

Who told you that ? The  real story is your machine is NOT compatible with any USB-C hubs/docks at all including the HP USB-C G5 dock.

Its specs   https://files.bbystatic.com/4falVKdXxa7YcsgqWB77Wg%3D%3D/Datasheet

It ONLY has a hopeless  USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate (supports data transfer only and does not support charging or external monitors) port. Connection using USB-A port with a right adapter from your machine OR from the dock is the working option, no other choice.

Regards.
