HP Laptop 15-dy1971cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just recently purchased the HP Laptop 15-dy1971cl and the screen appears washed out or hazy white.

Not sure if this helps or not, but the display appears washed out or hazy white when the screen is perpendicular to the line of sight, or a viewing angle of 90 deg. If I tilt the lid back to about 135 deg, it looks about what is should normally.

I have attempted tweaking as many display settings as I could find without any improvement.

The display is:  15.6" FHD LED Display (220 nits)

@rbaus

I understand your concerns.

In that case, I would suggets you conatct our phoen support and check for the support option. They will help you.

Or you can conatct a local service center for repair.

Here is how you can get in touch with phone support.

1)Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

We are experiencing longer than expected wait times to reach an agent due to the CoViD-19 impact and there might have been issues in you getting the expected resolution on the issue.

Have a nice day!!

@rbaus Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the HP Laptop 15-dy1971cl Display Washed Out/ White Haze.

If you haven't, Please try an alternate monitor to understand if this is either a hardware or a software failure,

if the issue does not appear on the alternate monitor, you may need to replace the display assembly on your computer,

if the issue appears on the alternate monitor/TV as well, re-install the graphics card drivers & update it from the official HP Website: Click here

If you don’t have an alternate monitor, I recommend checking if the issue appears on the BIOS screen (restart the computer and tap on F10 to access BIOS)

If the issue does not appear in BIOS, reinstall the graphics card drivers & update BIOS using the above link,
If it does, you may need to replace the LCD/Repair the computer:

If the issue occurred after an accident (such as dropping it on the floor, liquid spilled on it, etc.) there could be a hardware failure and in such cases, you may need to get the computer repaired via HP (there could be a charge involved if the PC isn't covered by the accidental damage protection plan)

Reply with the result of the above-mentioned steps, for further assistance.

@praveen196 Thank you for your response.

I have two external monitors, and the colors on both are bright and vibrant. One is connected to the HDMI port and the other is connected to a USB port.

The laptop has suffered no trauma while in my possession. I purchased it new, in-box, and the packaging had not been opened or displayed any visible outward damage. I purchased it in-store from a retailer so there are no shipping mistreatment concerns.

I downloaded HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows 1.6.4.0, and ran every available system (both Fast and Extensive) and component test. All tests passed.

Please advise next step(s). Thank you.
