HP Pavilion x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ek1000 (742H9AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi. I have a Windows 11 Version 25H2 (64-bit). This laptop is less than a year-old, so it is still brand new. It has gone through the regular automatic Microsoft updates since I purchased it. I bought this device to do virtual conferences. The camera was working.

However, my last zoom conference, I noticed the camera was absent on the zoom tab. I checked under my laptop setting under Devices and it says, "No Camera Found." I then checked under Device Manager, and the driver is missing. I scanned for Hardware changes and still nothing. I have started and restarted the computer and still nothing.

I went on HP support for assistance, but my OS version is not listed on the menu (only a 23H and a 24H versions are listed).

At this point I am at a loss.  Why would a brand-new laptop be missing a critical component which I am guessing might have been caused after an automatic update? Is there anything else I can do to fix this problem? This is becoming very frustrating. Help!

Hey Nilat,

On a nearly new HP Pavilion x360, if the camera suddenly disappears in Device Manager, it’s usually caused by a driver issue or Windows update glitch, not a hardware failure.

Here’s a concise approach:

  1. Run the HP Support Assistant and check for camera driver updates. Even if your OS isn’t listed, the latest driver for 23H/24H often works with 25H2.
  2. Open Device Manager, click View > Show hidden devices, and see if the camera appears. If it does, right-click and Uninstall, then restart to let Windows reinstall it.
  3. Check Windows Privacy settings: Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera—make sure apps are allowed to access the camera.
  4. If still missing, download the HP Imaging Device Driver directly from HP’s support site for your model and install it manually.
  5. As a last step, if nothing works, a Windows rollback to the previous update or HP support service may be required, as some updates can temporarily disable or corrupt device drivers.

Most of the time, a manual driver reinstall or privacy check restores the camera.

Hi STN3,

None of the other options worked, I have one last option to try, which is installing the driver manually but I'm not able to fin the driver in the HP website. Can you lease provide the link for the imaging driver or point out which one is it from the below image?

Hey Nilat,

Here's the direct link to your exact model's driver page:

https://support.hp.com/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-x360-14-inch-2-in-1-laptop-pc-14-ek1000/21014...

The reason you're not seeing a standalone camera driver is because HP bundles it with other components for this model. Here's what works:

Step-by-step:

  1. On that page, select Windows 11 (24H2 or 23H2) - both work fine with your 25H2
  2. Install ALL drivers under "Driver-Chipset" first (all 6 of them)
  3. Then install both drivers under "Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices"
  4. Restart twice (important - first restart loads chipset, second loads peripherals)
  5. After the second restart, check Device Manager to see if the camera appears
  6. Also verify Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera is enabled

If the camera still doesn't show up:

  • Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (press Esc at startup, then F2) to test if the camera is detected at hardware level
  • If it's not detected even there, contact HP Support since you're under warranty - this would be a firmware/hardware issue they need to resolve
