The screen on my HP laptop turns black when I first start up. Eventually, I am able to move the unseen cursor via mouse or touch pad around and get the sign-on screen to become visible. Once signed on, the screen turns black again. As I move the unseen cursor around the screen, home screen issues come into view momentarily until the cursor moves to another area on the screen and turns black again. Sometimes the screen displays cascading lines of various colors from to bottom which continues until I press Ctrl-Alt-Delete. Once I'm finally able to navigate to the start icon, I can right click to bring up the Device Manager. From there, I scroll down to Display adapters and right click Intel Iris Plus Graphics to Uninstall it. The laptop display then functions normally until I shut down. I have to repeat this process each time I start up. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue would be much appreciated.

Hi @Rick2622,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The symptoms you're describing suggest a potential issue with the graphics drivers on your HP laptop. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem.
-
Update Graphics Drivers:
- Visit the HP support website for your laptop model (HP Notebook 15-Dy1087nr) and download the latest graphics drivers for your Intel Iris Plus Graphics.
- Install the updated drivers and restart your laptop to see if the issue persists.
-
Rollback Graphics Drivers:
- If the problem started occurring after a driver update, you might want to try rolling back to a previous version. In the Device Manager, right-click on the Intel Iris Plus Graphics under Display adapters, choose "Properties," go to the "Driver" tab, and select "Roll Back Driver" if the option is available.
-
Disable Automatic Driver Updates:
- In some cases, automatic Windows updates may install drivers that are causing conflicts. You can disable automatic driver updates by going to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update" > "Advanced options" > "View your update history" > "Uninstall updates." Locate the problematic update and uninstall it.
-
Check for Windows Updates:
- Ensure that your Windows operating system is up to date. Go to "Settings" > "Update & Security" > "Windows Update" and click on "Check for updates."
-
Check for Malware:
- Run a full system scan with your antivirus software to check for any malware or malicious programs that may be affecting your system.
-
Hardware Diagnostic Test:
- Run a hardware diagnostic test to check for any hardware issues. HP laptops often have built-in diagnostic tools that can be accessed during the startup process. Consult your laptop's manual or visit the HP support website for instructions on how to run hardware diagnostics.
-
BIOS/UEFI Update:
- Check if there is a BIOS/UEFI update available for your laptop on the HP support website. If there is, follow the instructions provided to update your system BIOS/UEFI.
Remember to back up important data before performing any major updates or changes to your system.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden4, Thank you for the quick and detailed response to my posted issue. I apologize for the delayed reply but it took me some time to try each of your suggestions. Unfortunately, none of them seem to resolve the problem. I even ran the HP System Diagnostic "Extensive Test" and no problems were identified. As an alternative, I disabled the Intel Iris Plus Graphics display adapter and so far the issue seems to be resolved. Thanks again for your response.
