Model: 15-af008nm
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello, I have a notebook model num. 15-af008nm. It has A8-7410 CPU with Amd Radeon r5 Graphics, and linked m330 gpu. Primary gpu has 512mb memory, linked one m330 2gb. When I play GTA V it shows only 512mb. I remember when I bought laptop years ago, the same GTA V ran smoothly with 25 30 fps, no lags at all, only sometimes but rare. Is there a problem with my drivers or smt? Or the games doesn't even use my linked gpu? I installed 17.4.2 driver on my notebook, even tried with drivers from support page here for my model num. Even CS 1.6 can't run smoothly, when there is more than 25 players on the server it's like 40-50-60 fps, jumps around.

Does someone know the solution to this or it is like it is and that's all?

Thanks in advance for all the useful answers.

Nobody knows the answer? Sorry for the spam community, I just need to hear from someone is it supposed to be this way, or is the laptop even use linked gpu m330? I saw earlier cs 1.6, as opengl, can't use the linked gpu. But what about gta v? In settings it says it's using 512mb of memory, and m330 has 2gb... Again, sorry for the spam, really.

Hi @prlanbrate

I understand you like playing GTA V without any hiccups or lags, however, this model notebook is not designed for high-performance gaming. The product specifications can be found here. If you are into high-end graphic games, I would suggest you try our HP Omen series specially made for gamers.

As of now, we can try some tweaks to get the device to work smoothly by changing the in-game settings to low resolution and disable texture/quality.

Kindly refer to the steps mentioned in this document.

To reduce quality and improve performance:

  • Go to Start Menu > click on Settings
  • Type performance > choose to Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.
  • In the new window, go to the Visual Effects and select Adjust for best performance.
  • Click Apply and ok...this should do the trick.

Make sure the PC is up to date with the help of HPSA

Install updates using HP Support Assistant

  1. In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
  2. Check for updates.
  3. If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello @Kumar0307,

I already knew the things you wrote, sir. I know this laptop isn't meant for gaming, and as I wrote, when I bought this notebook. I finished GTA V in like 2 3 days without lags, if any (lowest settings ofc, but playable). And I just wonder does my notebook usey linked r5 m330 gpu with 2gb properly. I feel it doesn't, maybe I'm wrong.

And I'm not much of a gamer, I just wanted to check if my laptop can still run gta v like before, cuz of this virus thing and all. We need to be home like 90% of the time.

Anyway, thanks for your answer. Will try the hp assistent software. And will get back at you if the situation is any better. Thanks again, sir.

Thanks for helping again, I've done everything. HP assistent didn't find any updates for my gpu drivers and stuff. I updated only BIOS from f.26 to f.27. That was it of HP assistent. Still I thing my GTA V doesn't even see my r5 m330 gpu, cuz I saw some guys on yt having same problems as me with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics with linked R5 M330 GPU. Those guys on yt with Intel HD Graphics and linked R5 M330 GPU play gta v on low settings easily, because the game sees their M330 and it shows in the settings -> graphics -> Video Memory: 2048mb (2gb of m330). And my notebook has AMD Radeon R5 Graphics with linked R5 M330 GPU, but it still says 'Video Memory: 512mb' 512mb of integrated GPU not R5 M330. So is there some kind of specific driver version I need to install or any kind of fix. Thanks for any advice. As I said I'm not much of a gamer, but I study some IT college. And even I don't have to play GTA V that much. It irritates me that the game doesn't see the M330 GPU, and I just wanna find out why. Thanks for any help. If you have any further suggestions please write it down, thanks again

@prlanbrate, thank you for the response.

The GPUs are system managed and there is not much we can do to tweak the same. For minor tweaks & details on the subject. check out this document.

To check the functionality of the AMD m330, you may run an extensive hardware test on the PC.

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. Perform System Test > Extensive test. Share the result on your next post.

Note: The advantage of having discrete graphics card is that if the notebook needs more power and one GPU is not enough, it would automatically activate the second Graphics Processor Unit (GPU)
