Hello! I have HP Omen 16-wf0xxx - i7 13700HX, RTX4060, 16 RAM. Windows 11 - 23H2. The default power mode when I'm plugged in is performance, the thermal control is set to auto. NVIDIA Control Panel settings are default. Windows power mode is the "best performance". Used this laptop for about 2 months. Did not change anything inside.
I set the medium graphics settings for all my games (PUBG, CS2, It Takes Two, etc.) when I started playing. When this problem occurred, I changed the settings to lowest. Still, the problem persisted - the only solution was to reboot the laptop - only then the laggs disappeared. I tried to update the BIOS and graphics driver, but it did not help. Then I installed the NVIDIA app and "optimized" my games to the lowest settings again. The freezing and lag problem disappeared for about 2 weeks, until now.
Again, it is almost the same situation. Not only the game is freezing, FPS in the lobby drops from 60 FPS (locked in the settings) to 30-40 after 1 match. Also, when I'm in Discord, friends say that they can not hear me well, while I can hear them (after 1 match). I tried updating drivers and BIOS again - but the latest versions were already installed. I tried both HP diagnostics tools (Windows and UEFI), but the results are OK in all parameters. I even tried undervolting CPU in Omen Hub by -0.1V, still no effect. The average temps while I play are 85-90C on the CPU and around 80-85C on the GPU (with the lowest graphics settings).
Can someone explain why this happens? Why do I have laggs and micro-freezes on the lowest settings?
Thank you for your attention.

Hi @Fighter9824,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds frustrating to deal with performance issues despite having a high-spec machine.
Here are a few additional troubleshooting steps and considerations that might help:
- Thermal Throttling: Your temperatures are on the higher end of normal, which might indicate thermal throttling. Ensure that the cooling system (fans and vents) is clean and functioning correctly. You might also try using a cooling pad to help lower temperatures.
- Power Settings: Even though you've set the power mode to "Best Performance," verify that the laptop's power settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel are also set to use the high-performance GPU rather than the integrated one.
- Background Processes: Check for any background applications or processes that might be consuming resources. Use Task Manager to monitor CPU, GPU, and RAM usage and see if any processes spike during gameplay.
- Driver Conflicts: Sometimes, multiple drivers or software can cause conflicts. Make sure you don't have any residual drivers from previous installations. You might use a tool like DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to completely remove old NVIDIA drivers and then reinstall the latest ones.
- System Updates: Ensure that all Windows updates are installed, as these can sometimes address performance issues.
- Check for Malware: Run a full system scan to rule out any malware or viruses that could be affecting performance.
- Game Settings and Overlays: Sometimes, in-game overlays (like Discord or GeForce Experience) can cause performance issues. Try disabling these overlays and see if it improves performance.
- Check for Firmware Updates: Occasionally, specific firmware updates can resolve performance issues. Make sure your laptop's firmware is up-to-date. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Check Battery Health: Sometimes, battery health can affect performance, even when plugged in. Ensure that the battery is in good condition and check the battery settings to ensure it's not limiting performance.
- Test Different Games: Try running other demanding games or benchmarks to see if the issue persists across different applications. This can help determine if the problem is specific to certain games or more general.
