HP Omen 17
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have recently purhcased HP Omen 17 with gtx 1070, Intel i7 7700Hq and 75Hz full-hd screen, clearely a very capable and powerful machine. However, I most games I experince exessesive amount of stuttering. By stuttering I mean when a games skip frames, and pauses for a milisecond. In some games I experince little to no stutering, like Dota 2 and Rainbox 6 Siege, yet in some games stuttering is occuring at the higher rate, like Battlefield 4 and 1, and some games are barely playable, like Deus EX Mankind Divied.

I have tried playing games from SSD and HDD, it didnt seem to have any difference. I updated Nvidia drivers to the newest, didnt help. Then, I dowgraded the drivers, didnt help as well. I have restored the system, it didnt help. I have perfomed stress tests o CPU and GPU yet I didnt find any throttling.

I would appriciate assistance, because I dont want to be limited to a few games with such a powerful laptop.

Hi billybobby123,

Nice laptop you've got there. I have a few suggestions but you may have already tried them.

Also, could you try monitoring the temperature and see if it is overheating with games that stutter? You can use CoreTemp: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

Something about the 75Hz screen bothers me. Please try checking in your NVIDIA graphics control panel or something and seeing if there's something called G-Sync. Then test out the games.

If that didn't work, turn G-Sync off and then proceed to the stuttering games' settings or video adjustments and turn on V-Sync.

Now the next suggestion would not use your laptops full potential, but it's worth a try:

  1. Assuming you're running the latest version of Windows 10, search Change Display Settings
  2. Select Display Adapter Properties
  3. Proceed to the Monitor tab
  4. Screen refresh rate > change it to 60Hz

If the refresh rate was originally on 60Hz, change it to 75Hz for better gaming.

Hope this helps,

kem579

Hello,

I appriciate your assistance kem579, but unfortuntely, none of them worked as I have tried them before.

First of all, my screen is G-sync capable and stuttering is happening regardless whether I have G-sync on or off, same goes for V-sync.

I hace checked my tempertures with CoreTemp, and they seemed to be normal for a GTX 1070 laptop.

I feel very frustrated. This stuttering really bothers me and I hope I will soon find a solution...

Hello billybobby123,

Cannot view the image yet, but the fact that neither G-sync or V-sync worked is quite unfortunate. You may need to see if the latest graphics/chipset/BIOS updates have been made.

You can do so through HP's support/drivers page or HP Support Assistant. If you provide us with the model/product number, we can also try to search and recommend some for you. Otherwise, it's really hard to pinpoint the exact issue.
