Microsoft Windows 11

I have recently started having issues with my laptop.  On first boot of the day the laptop will boot ok into windows 11 but upon getting to the home screen, the screen will flicker and go black and come and go of its own accord.  I have tried all usual update procedures (windows, HP, driver update through device manager).  The only thing that seems to stop it is a reboot, which cures it till the next day mostly.

These issues seemed to start only about a month ago.  I am assuming that it must be related to a windows/driver update.  I did look at the Intel update utility but the fact that it gave me warning about having an HP specific display driver and that I would get errors if i used the generic Intel one put me off trying it.

Does anybody have any advice?  Will i have any real issues if I use the generic intel one?

I did read some posts on here about windows pushing out the wrong driver last year - could this be a similar issue?

thanks

Andrew

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that your notebook screen is flickering, I am glad to assist you.

Update the Bios, chipset, and drivers using HP Support Assistant.

Download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: Click here

  • HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook
  • Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  • Click Updates in the My notebook pane
  • Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  • Updates list in HP Support Center
  • Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  • Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  • Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also, ensure Windows is up to date.

  • Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Let me know how it goes.

 Hi Sandytechy20

I have tried downloading the support app and i just get the message that I have a newer version already installed.  As far as updates go - there are no required updates in the HP app and no updates in Windows either ( not even optional ones).

I still have the screen flickering issue and it still seems to be resolved temporarily by a reboot of the laptop.

Windows task manager also flickers  but while experimenting I also noticed that when in task manager when the screen isn't flickering on and off or showing random bars across the screen - the txt on the screen also can go fuzzy, almost like its going in and out of focus.  Could all this be down  to a bad display driver?

Thanks

Just to update the situation.  I fully believe now that the driver/drivers are at fault as I have managed to eventually working between the screen going on and off to disable the Display Adaptor (Intel UHD Graphic - driver version 26.20.100.7926). This has cured my screen flickering so I am now wondering how i fix this issue as while disabling the driver has cured the screen flickering, the screen icons and writing has gone too small.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Thank you for your reply.  I have tried dealing with Hp support via What’s app and that was a total disaster. I contacted them on a Monday morning and between no body replying and being passed around wrong departments- I was still getting on off messages 3 days later.  So as I work nightshift I gave up.
To resolve my issue, even temporarily, I have disabled the driver giving the issue.  To me this main problem seems to stem from the fact that HP don’t have an updated driver for Windows 11. I can get one from Intel but they advise not using it and waiting for HP.
