Hello,
I’m seeking help with my HP Pavilion 15-ec0004la (Windows 11, 32GB RAM, Ryzen 7, GTX 1650). The issue started after running the HP Hardware Diagnostics UEFI tool. Upon launching the diagnostics, the laptop screen went completely black with no signal. Forced a shutdown using the power button, but upon rebooting, no display output appeared—not even the HP logo. However, I heard the Windows 11 startup sound, confirming the system boots normally.
Troubleshooting steps attempted:
- Connected an external monitor via HDMI, which initially worked.
- Opened Device Manager and uninstalled all devices (including hidden ones) and display adapters.
*Uninstalling the Ryzen 7 integrated graphics driver caused no immediate issues.
*Upon uninstalling the NVIDIA GTX 1650 driver, the external monitor also lost signal (black screen even after rebooting).
Current status:
- No display on laptop screen or external monitor.
- Laptop still powers on (fans spin, Windows startup sound plays and I can hover around windows but obviously blinded).
- How can I restore display functionality?
- Could this be related to UEFI/driver corruption?
- Is there a way to reset drivers or BIOS without display access?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi @_Joach,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Perform a Hard Reset Turn off the laptop. Disconnect all peripherals (USB devices, charger, etc.). Hold the power button for 30 seconds. Plug in the power and restart. If there's still no display, move to the next step.
2. Reset the BIOS (Blind Reset) If the issue started after running UEFI diagnostics, resetting the BIOS might help:
Turn off the laptop. Press and hold Windows + B, then press the power button for 3-5 seconds. Release all keys and wait, it should attempt a BIOS recovery. If successful, restart the laptop. If the screen remains blank, proceed to the next step.
3. Boot into Safe Mode (Blind Method) Since Windows is running in the background, you can try a blind safe mode boot to reset the display drivers:
Turn on the laptop and let it fully boot (wait for the Windows login sound). Press Windows + Ctrl + Shift + B (this resets the graphics driver). If nothing happens, force shutdown the laptop by holding the power button for 10 seconds. Turn it back on and immediately press F8 repeatedly (even though you can't see it). Wait for a few seconds, then press the Down Arrow 3 times, followed by Enter (this selects Safe Mode). If the screen comes back in Safe Mode, reinstall the NVIDIA & Ryzen drivers via Device Manager.
4. Reinstall Graphics Drivers (If Safe Mode Works) Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager). Expand Display Adapters. Right-click NVIDIA GTX 1650 and select Uninstall device → Check Delete driver software → OK. Do the same for AMD Ryzen Integrated Graphics. Restart the laptop and let Windows install default drivers. Download and install the latest drivers from HP's support page or directly from NVIDIA & AMD.
5. Last Resort: External BIOS Recovery (USB Method) If all else fails, you may need to recover the BIOS using a USB drive.
Download the latest BIOS from HP’s official website. Create a BIOS recovery USB drive using another computer. Insert the USB into your laptop and follow Step 2 (BIOS Reset Method) again.
Let me know what happens after each step! 😊
