Pavilion 24-xa1 AiO
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have had this AiO for roughly a year with no issues. Then tonight my built-in webcam stopped working. Opening Zoom, the video was a black screen. Assuming it was a Zoom issue, I closed and reopened to have the same problem. I've checked it on Google chat and using the Camera app on the computer, all with the same result.

Tried so far:

it's an AiO system with a pavilion 600 keyboard so there's no privacy switch or webcam kill button that I'm aware of.

Checking the HP support site, I can't find any drivers to update/swap to.

I've followed the steps to update drivers to a generic USB device.

I've disabled and re-enabled the device.

I've uninstalled it then reinstalled it.

I've used system restore to roll updates back a couple of weeks.

All with no success. I know the webcam is working though as it recognises my face when I log in.  Any one else had this? Anyone know a fix?

Hi Praveenbv,

None of those steps work. I've been through each step, without success.

This includes me tweaking steps to fit what my computer displays, such as selecting 'webcam' in the device manager rather than 'imaging software' since the latter isn't an option.

When I've tried to update and check drivers on the HP site, it stays on a loading screen and never proceeds past this. On occasions it will tell me it doesn't recognise my system despite it being a registered product on my account. Other times it directs me to generic drivers, none of which relate to imaging software or webcams.

I've searched through the Community pages without success. I've seen some others have had similar issues but no solutions.

I've checked for support centres and there's none within 100 miles of me according to the support site.

What puzzles me is that the facial recognition function works so there's clearly life in it. But something is stopping the camera from broadcasting what it sees.

If you can give me any clarity on this, that'd be great.

If you can tell me who the manufacturer of the in-built webcam is, I could look for drivers at the source (Device Manager says HP 2.0MP HD webcam and a second one titled HP IR cam).

Thanks,

Andy
