I recently got a Pavilion 15 and I'm having trouble from the off.

I upgraded the M.2 drive to a bigger one and had to reinstall Windows 11, but when trying to install ANY driver literally nothing happens. I can extract the drivers to a location but nothing seems to happen after that, I can go into the extracted folder and run HPUP.exe but nothing happens, I run the install.cmd via command prompt and again nothing happens.

When trying any of the above a log appears but tells me very little, no errors flag up at all. Either "Finish to execute install script with exit code 0" or "[ManageCertificate] Matched Certificate is found in Store"

So far a very annoying experience with HP. Why isn't any installer working?

Hi @aHumanError,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering a frustrating issue with your HP Pavilion 15 after upgrading your M.2 drive and reinstalling Windows 11. Here are several troubleshooting steps to help resolve the driver installation problem.

Check Windows Update

Ensure that Windows Update is fully up to date. Sometimes, Windows will automatically download and install necessary drivers and updates.

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  2. Click on Check for updates and install any available updates.

Run Windows Troubleshooter

Use the built-in troubleshooter to identify and fix potential issues with your device.

  1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
  2. Run the Windows Update and Hardware and Devices troubleshooters.

Download HP Support Assistant

HP Support Assistant is a tool designed to help keep your HP device in working order by finding and installing the latest drivers and software updates.

  1. Download HP Support Assistant from HP's official website and install it.
  2. Open HP Support Assistant and check for updates.

Manual Driver Installation via Device Manager

If the drivers are not installing through the executable, you can try installing them manually through Device Manager.

  1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Find the device you want to update, right-click on it, and select Update driver.
  3. Choose Browse my computer for drivers and navigate to the folder where you extracted the drivers.
  4. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Run Installers as Administrator

Sometimes, driver installers need elevated privileges to run correctly.

  1. Right-click on the installer (e.g., HPUP.exe or install.cmd).
  2. Select Run as administrator.

Check for Conflicting Software

Ensure there is no software conflict causing the issue. Disable any third-party antivirus or security software temporarily and try running the installers again.

Check the Installation Log

Since you're getting logs, review them for any specific errors or warnings. Although you mentioned it doesn't show errors, recheck for any overlooked details.

Re-download Drivers

Ensure you have the correct and latest drivers for your specific model from the HP support website.

  1. Visit the HP support page.
  2. Enter your model number and download the latest drivers.
  3. Extract and attempt installation again.

Reinstall Windows 11 (Clean Install)

As a last resort, consider performing a clean installation of Windows 11. Sometimes, issues can arise from remnants of previous installations or upgrades.

  1. Backup your data.
  2. Create a bootable USB drive with the Windows 11 installation media using the Media Creation Tool.
  3. Boot from the USB drive and perform a clean install.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

So after spending way to much time on this than I should've it turns out that the problem is the complete lack of feedback from the driver packages. Trying to install the drivers for the Audio I get nothing, but I think it does install (I'm not actually sure if Windows installed these drivers) others do show a message afterwards, like the Network drivers - but again no indication that it's doing anything.

Weirdly you can only download drivers for the main peripherals, such as Display, Audio, Network, etc. No other drivers for things like Chipset. And so after i was "finished" installing all the available drivers I had downloaded I still had something like 5 or 6 unknown devices.

Luckily the network drivers must've installed and I was able to connect to my Wifi and Windows downloaded and installed the rest of them. I also then downloaded AMD's 'Adrenalin' that then updated a few more so now finally it's running OK.

I find it a bit stupid that you can only download main device drivers - every other computer I've had the company has had all drivers available such as system devices and chipsets. On top of that the installation of these drivers is done completely in the background and you have no idea if it's actually doing anything - sometimes a confirmation, sometimes not.
