HP Pavilion gaming laptop dimming issue, While starting it and working with it, the laptop display screen dims most of the time, however when I adjust the display hinge or keep a cushion behind the display hinge to support it. The display starts working completely fine as expected. Please share your inputs if anyone has fixed this and faced the same issue.

Hi @Abhinav46,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're experiencing with your HP Pavilion gaming laptop's display dimming when not properly supported by a cushion or adjusted hinge is likely related to a loose or damaged display cable connection. This is a common issue in laptops where the internal display cable (also known as the LVDS or eDP cable) becomes partially disconnected or damaged due to the frequent opening and closing of the laptop lid.
Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially fix the issue.
Check Display Cable Connection:
- Power Off and Unplug: Ensure the laptop is powered off and unplugged from any power source.
- Open the Laptop: Carefully open the back panel of the laptop to access the internal components. This usually involves removing a series of screws.
- Locate the Display Cable: Find the cable connecting the motherboard to the display. It's typically a thin, flat cable.
- Secure the Connection: Ensure both ends of the cable are securely connected. Sometimes, reseating (disconnecting and reconnecting) the cable can resolve the issue.
- Inspect for Damage: Look for any visible signs of damage to the cable. If the cable appears frayed or damaged, it may need to be replaced.
Test the Hinge:
- Hinge Adjustment: Since adjusting the display hinge or using a cushion temporarily fixes the issue, the hinge itself may be putting stress on the cable or causing it to become loose. Ensure the hinge mechanism is not overly tight or damaged.
Check for Firmware/Driver Updates:
- Update Drivers: Make sure your graphics drivers and system BIOS/firmware are up to date. Sometimes, software updates can resolve hardware issues.
- HP Support Assistant: Use the HP Support Assistant tool to check for any updates or diagnostics.
Temporary Solutions:
- External Monitor: As a temporary measure, you can use an external monitor to ensure you can continue using your laptop without display issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
