Hello good people, I upgraded from Vista to Windows 8.1 and started having issues with video failure sad face VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE. I was advised to upgrade the RAM but not sure how much RAM or max RAM to add. Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance.

Hallo Sola,
I found this info in your Maintenance and Service Guide: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03182899
page: 9 in the online PDF.
Looks like max RAM on 4GB
Memory
● Two SODIMM slots
● Customer accessible/upgradable
● Dual-channel support
● DDRII PC2-5300 (667 and 800 MHz)
4096-MB total system memory (2048 MB × 2, dual-channel)
2048-MB total system memory (2048 MB × 1, 1024 MB × 2, dual-channel)
But that error is not from your RAM but from you graphic card driver more likely.
Driver for your graphic card from AMD website to windows 8 x64: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy2&os=Windows%208%20-%2064

I got the drivers downloaded/upgraded and it went well. The laptop seems stable - seems because I want to give it more time to be very sure it is stable. As for the RAM upgrade, I'm considering to do it. Thanks again for your help.

Hello Zincas,
Sorry, the solution didn't work. I downloaded the driver from the link you provided and the laptop seemed stable until I restarted. So, it's still giving me the sad face blue screen of death (whatever it's called) with the message "Video_TDR_Failure. In short, the problem isn't solved. Please, let me know if you have any other suggestions. Thank you.
