14M-DH1003DX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just purchased a HP Pavillion x360 model #14M-DH1003DX. Having an issue with the GPU, display, or something related. The laptop is used by my Mom who just wants to play low system requirement games like mahjong, scrabble, and so forth. Any of the games she tries to play using her steam account will not run on this laptop. They all display an error message that reads something like "Cannot run application due to display issue. Please run on  a system using 16 bit depth or higher at a 800x600 or higher resolution."

The laptop is running at higher than 800x600 display at 1920x1080. Windows says the bit depth is currently set at 6. I'm thinking there's an issue with the bit depth, but I can't figure out if the system can be changed to a higher bit depth or if the system will even allow for it. I tried using the intel graphic support software but it doesn't have any option to change the bit depth. Windows doesn't offer any option either.  I updated windows 10 drivers and even tried downloading the latest display drivers from both HP and for the dedicated gpu Intel UHD. HP's drivers will unpack but don't run the installer. Intel's drivers say the are wrong even though I checked to make sure I downloaded the correct driver.

Any help appreciated. Can this display even go above 6 bit depth?

@Fruhstuck Welcome to HP Community!

Please check if the games installed on the device or online works fine, apart from the ones on steam,

If the issue occurs only on steam games, you may want to click here to troubleshoot the same.

If the issue not limited to steam, I suggest you install all available windows updates (to upgrade direct X) and the BIOS using the HP website: click here to find and install the same.
