My HP Pavillion laptop won't connect to my Dell monitor via usb-c. My laptop connects to other monitors fine as well as other HP laptops connecting to the monitor via usb-c fine as well, it will work via HDMI, but ideally I would like to work via usb-c. Any suggestions to fix the issue? Is this a problem with my laptop or the monitor? Thanks!

Hi @jackM2400 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you've already done some good troubleshooting by testing different combinations of devices and cables. Since the HP Pavilion 13 connects to other monitors via USB-C, and the Dell P2425HE monitor works with other HP laptops, the issue seems to lie in the compatibility between your specific laptop and the monitor when using USB-C.
Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:
1. Check USB-C Cable
- Cable Type: Ensure the USB-C cable you’re using is capable of carrying both video and data. Not all USB-C cables are designed to carry a video signal.
- Test Different Cable: If possible, test with another known working USB-C cable, especially one that supports USB-C Alt Mode (video output).
2. Update Drivers
- Graphics Drivers: Make sure your graphics driver is up to date. You can update it through Device Manager or download the latest version from HP's or Intel’s website, depending on your GPU.
- Go to Device Manager > Display adapters, right-click on your GPU, and select Update driver.
- USB-C Drivers: If the USB-C port is powered by a specific chipset (like Thunderbolt), check for updates on the HP support page for your laptop model.
- Dell Monitor Drivers: While most monitors don’t need specific drivers, it doesn’t hurt to check Dell’s support page for any firmware updates or drivers for the Dell P2425HE monitor.
3. BIOS Update
- Check HP's support page for any BIOS updates. Sometimes, compatibility issues can be resolved with a system firmware update.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates or visit the HP Drivers & Downloads page.
4. USB-C Port Power & Compatibility
- Power Delivery Issue: Some USB-C ports have limited power delivery capabilities or might not support video output. Review your laptop’s specifications to ensure the USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode. You can find this information in the manual or on HP’s product page for the Pavilion 13-bb0000.
- Check Monitor Settings: Sometimes monitors have specific USB-C input settings that need to be enabled. On the Dell P2425HE, go to the monitor’s On-Screen Display (OSD) menu, and under Input Source, make sure the USB-C option is selected.
5. Test with Another USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter
- If the issue persists, test using a USB-C to DisplayPort or HDMI adapter to see if the laptop can connect to the monitor through that route.
6. USB-C Hub or Dock
- Some laptops and monitors work better with a USB-C hub or dock in between. If you have one, you can try connecting the laptop to the monitor via the hub to rule out a direct connection issue.
7. Reset the Monitor
- As a last resort, resetting the monitor’s settings back to factory defaults may help resolve any configuration issues.
- You can do this through the monitor's OSD Menu > Reset Settings.
Refer to this document: HP Pavilion Laptop PC 13-bb0000 (9WG33AV) User manual
HP PCs - Connecting a monitor, projector, or TV (Windows)
HP PCs - Using two or more monitors with one computer (Windows 11, 10)
HP PCs - Connecting to a wireless monitor or smart TV (Windows 11, 10)
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
