Hello,
I have an HP Pavilion - 15z Laptop - Product number: 9JA90AV. Link to description of the laptop below. I am using Windows 10 (64 bit). The laptop has the following ports:
1 USB Type-C™ 3.1 Gen 1 (Data Transfer Only);
2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Data Transfer Only);
1 HDMI v1.4;
Link to laptop model:
https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/hp-pavilion-laptop-15z-high-performance-9ja90av-1
Both monitors are the same: Dell S Series - S2319NX
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-s2319nx-23-ips-led-fhd-monitor-hdmi-vga-black-silver/6237640.p?sku...
I already have one monitor attached through the HDMI port but need to attach a 2nd monitor. I bought a USB-C to HDMI adapter but it didn't work because the USB-C is only for data transfers. I have heard that there is a way around this but don't want to buy another adapter and have to return it with the same issue. Please note, I don't want to mirror both screens, I want to use each screen for separate tasks, which is called "extend" screens I think. Can someone please let me know if there is a way to connect a 2nd monitor to this laptop, and if so, how do I do this? Which adapter or docking station would work?
Thank you.

If you wish to have 2 or more external monitors (and notebook monitor - total 3), please enter your requirement on the following link and it will find for you few USB-A DisplayLink Certified options on market today including some HP products (you can select HP before Search)
https://www.displaylink.com/products/universal-docking-stations
For example

I'm using a cheap older dock

Hi,
Thank you for your response. I saw that you responded to another Paviliion user a few months ago with a link to this site. I am looking to make sure that this will work even though my USB-C, and USB's state that they are for "Data Transfer Only"? How do I know that it will work to extend a 2nd monitor?
Thank you.

I did give you 2 examples : one from HP and one from other vendor (much cheaper). I'm using them both right now, they both work with 2 external monitors independently (es extend mode) I did post my tests during Christmas 2018 holidays
Regards.

Ok, so even though I have "data transfer only" drives you are telling me that the links you gave me should work. Do you have a laptop that has data transfer only too?
How do I see the tests you did...do you have a link?
Thanks.

My 2 docks do not use USB-C ports, therefore out of question. If you wish to look at my old tests, you can search my screen name.
I did test USB-C Gen 5 dock few months back but I have not posted on public forum, only short version on Inner Circle.
Regards.

You did not read my replies. I mentioned twice.
