Turned on my laptop today and it immediately started flickering colored vertical lines(worked fine on Monday). Ran a Norton scan and no viruses were detected. Loose wire possibly?? Any help would be appreciated.

As I Understand the Screen is Flickering with Vertical Lines,
No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
Did you try with an alternate monitor?
If you haven't, Please try an alternate monitor to understand if this is either a hardware or a software failure,
if the issue does not appear on the alternate monitor, you may need to replace the display assembly on your computer,
if the issue appears on the alternate monitor/TV as well, re-install the graphics card drivers & update it from the official HP Website: Click here
If you don’t have an alternate monitor, I recommend checking if the issue appears on the BIOS screen (restart the computer and tap on F10 to access BIOS)
This would confirm if it's either a hardware failure or an issue with the graphics card drivers so we may reinstall and update the drivers to fix the issue as mentioned above.
If the issue persists on BIOS as well, please try with a TV to identify if it's the LCD or the motherboard/video card failure,
If the issue occurred after an accident (such as dropping it on the floor, liquid spilled on it, etc.) there could be a hardware failure and in such cases, you may need to get the computer repaired via HP (there could be a charge involved if the PC isn't covered by the accidental damage protection plan)
Reply with the result of the above-mentioned steps, for further assistance.

Thanks for the help. I finally got home again today and checked this out. When I turned it on today is was not flickering but the screen is not as clear as it should be. I did hook it up to a tv via a HDMI cable and it is completely clear on there so it is definitely something with the display on the laptop itself. It was not dropped and nothing was spilled on it so I can rule that out. My wife got it as a Christmas present a few years ago at Best Buy so perhaps I will take it back there and have someone there look at it. Thanks again for your assistance. It was very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to let the community know about the solution and I hope they could save Christmas by fixing it for you as this is a hardware malfunction, that said, if you have any issues with them, you could Contact HP and have it repaired free of charge (if the PC is still covered within the HP warranty).
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true
(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get the phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.
