So I have had this issue before when my laptop updated from windows 10 to 11 and I am having this issue again. After the 10 to 11 update was done everytime I powered my laptop on from shutdown the screen would flicker, however it stopped when I opened up task manager. A temp fix was to restart the laptop and afterwards the laptop would work fine. I tried rolling back the graphics driver then restarting the laptop so it would download the most relevent driver but that didn't work. I dowloaded HP driver and support to download the right driver for my laptop and that also didn't work. Eventually I downloaded intel driver and support assistant as my laptop runs on i3 and that showed me my driver was out of date and updated it for me. Since then I have had no issue until after this new update. I have the same issue all over again but this time my intel assistant says the driver is up to date. I have done all the fixes I metnioed earlier and none of tbose have worked.

Hi @damatka5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

This is a frustrating issue, and you’ve already done a lot of the right steps. The fact that the flicker stops when Task Manager opens is a strong clue that it usually points to Explorer or GPU driver conflicts during initialization.

Why It Happens

  • Windows updates sometimes install generic Intel graphics drivers that conflict with OEM-tuned drivers.
  • Explorer shell or background apps may trigger GPU acceleration glitches.
  • Power settings or hybrid graphics mode can also cause flicker.

Step-by-Step Fix

1. Confirm Flicker Type

  • If flicker stops when Task Manager opens → It’s likely software/driver related, not hardware.

2. Clean Install Graphics Driver

  • Download Intel Graphics Driver BIOS & Chipset  from HP (not just Intel Assistant): 👉 Official HP® Support
  • Uninstall current driver:
    • Device Manager → Display adapters → Intel UHD Graphics → Uninstall device → Check “Delete driver software”.
  • Restart and install the HP-provided driver.

3. Disable Hardware Acceleration

  • In Settings → System → Display → Graphics, set Desktop apps → Task Manager → Power saving.
  • Also, disable hardware acceleration in browsers and apps.

4. Adjust Power Mode

  • Open Intel Graphics Command Center → Disable Panel Self Refresh under Power settings.
  • In Omen Gaming Hub (if applicable), set to Balanced or Performance.

5. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
