I used to use my HP Pen sometime ago but now suddenly it has stopped working. The touchscreen is working fine. All drivers and BIOS are up to date. The HP Pen control app says "HP Pen Control is not compatible" . It used to work before but i don't know why it doesn't work now. There are no updates i can do . I have done all troubleshooting steps available in different forums on the internet. I know that the HP guys will tell me to buy a new pen but why should that be the case if the same pen worked before . I haven't even used it that much of the time.
HP Pen no -> M23869 - 001
HID Compliant Pen driver version -> 10.0.26100.1882

Hi @Kartik_Sh22
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It’s frustrating when a device like your HP Pen stops working, especially when it was working fine previously. Since you’ve already confirmed that all drivers and BIOS are up to date, and you’re seeing the message that HP Pen Control is not compatible, there may be a few other things to check or adjust to get it working again.
Here’s a step-by-step troubleshooting guide you can follow to potentially resolve the issue:
1. Check Pen Compatibility and Settings
- HP Pen Compatibility: Double-check the specific model and whether there have been any changes to the hardware or software compatibility on your device. Sometimes, updates to Windows or HP software can change how the pen is recognized or used, and some older pens may not work with newer software versions.
- HP Pen Control App Compatibility: The error message about the HP Pen Control app saying it’s “not compatible” suggests that the app may no longer be compatible with your pen model after a recent update. You can try uninstalling the app and reinstalling it from the Microsoft Store to see if that resolves the compatibility issue.
2. Check Device Manager for Pen Issues
- Open Device Manager: Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Find the Pen: Under the Human Interface Devices section, check for HID-Compliant Pen or any related entries for the pen.
- Update or Reinstall Drivers:
- Right-click on HID Compliant Pen and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- If no update is found, right-click and select Uninstall device. After uninstalling, restart your device and Windows should reinstall the default drivers for the pen.
3. Test the Pen with Another Device (if possible)
If possible, try using the HP Pen on another compatible HP device to verify if the pen itself is working. This can help you rule out whether the pen is faulty or if the issue lies with the current device setup.
- If the pen works on another device, then the issue is likely software or configuration-related on your primary device.
- If the pen still doesn’t work on another device, it may have an issue and need to be replaced.
4. Reset Windows Ink Settings
- Go to Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink.
- Scroll down to Pen shortcuts and try adjusting any settings.
- Also, try turning off the "Let me use my pen as a touch device" option to see if it helps with recognition issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
