HP ENVY x360 15-bp008no
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Eleven months ago I purchased a HP ENVY 15-inch convertible laptop and received a pen in the package. The pen, shown in the attached image below, appears to be an HP Active Pen manufactured by Microsoft, but according to this HP site it should be compatible with the computer – I mean, it came in the same box, right?

However, since the start I have been having issues with the connection between the pen and the computer. The pen writes on the screen, moves the cursor when hovering, registers pressure changes and the buttons work provided the pen is within three centimetres from the screen. However, every ten to fifteen seconds the connection between the pen and the laptop breaks. Even when holding the pen on the surface of the screen, none of the functions work correctly. Cleaning the screen, cleaning the pen tip and turning the battery around in the pen has no effect. Instead, ten seconds later, the pen resumes working as if randomly. I may as well note that the touch and multi-touch works perfectly with my fingers.

I have replaced the battery already, and I do not think it is the issue behind this. I have not yet tried updating my BIOS or the chipset software and I do not think this is relevant: the pen can still connect, it's just that the connection is intermittent. What could be the issue here? Is it a hardware problem with the pen?

Hi,

A distance of 3 cm is about the same as I get with the active stylus my HP product loan Spectre 15t-ch000 notebook was delivered with.

Go to the Control Panel --> Pen & Touch to select/deselect the Pen options and sensitivities and using the Touch tab, you can set the sensitivity of the Touch actions.

If the pen is a HP Tilt Pen (Microsoft)

 2MY21AA
HP SPS: 929863-001 (Dark Ash Silver) / 929863-002 (Natural Silver)

Then it is compatible with your notebook.

Follow the pen troubleshooting at the following HP web document.

https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04706945

Your notebook  is still in warranty. The factory free warranty is for one year after purchase. The pen is covered as well.

If you have followed the troubleshooting and the pen does not work as it should within the guidelines of the troubleshoting  document, then contacting HP for warranty service should bethe following step.
