SPECTRE X360 GEM CUT
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Hello, i have just received a brand new HP SPECTRE x360 GEM CUT. I have had a screen issue since the very beginning - after booting up the screen is completely black. Only after hard shutdown, closing lid, opening lid, and power on, windows comes to the screen. Initially i thought this could be an operating system issue, i did a clean install up to date installation of windows 10 pro x64, and updated all drivers and optional updates through the HP update assistant + upgraded the bios to the latest version. windows is completely up to date and also the hp update assistant version. When restarting the laptop, the hp logo appears with the windows 10 boot circle below it, then the screen goes blank again while the laptop is still working so the windows is definitely booting, but the screen is black. PLEASE HELP THIS IS A BRAND NEW LAPTOP. THANK YOU.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  • Have you tried connecting the laptop to an external monitor or TV?
  • Have you changed the system power plan?
  • Does it happen when you shake or move the computer?

While you respond to that, let's try this workaround.
Power plans are a collection of hardware and system settings that manage how your computer uses power. Select from preset power plans that use less power, maximize performance, or balance the two. You can also create custom plans according to specific performance needs.

  1. In Windows, search for and open Control Panel.

  2. Search for power, and then click Power Options.

Opening the Power Options in Windows

  3. Select an option under Choose or customize a power plan.

    Selecting a power plan

  4. To customize the selected plan, click Change plan settings, and then select the display and sleep settings when using the battery and when plugged in.

NOTE: To set up a personalized plan, click Create a power plan from list on the left side of the main Power Options window, and then follow the on-screen instructions. The plan displays in the list of available power plans.
  5. To change more power settings, click Change advanced power settings.

Change advanced power settings for more options

  6. Click the plus sign next to the component or function, change the available settings, click Apply, and then click OK.
    (Change the on battery minutes)

    Changing the Advanced settings

  7. Click Save changes.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi,

I have tried everything. Also, the screen was going black on boot and prior to the sleep timeout.

Since this is a brand new laptop i returned it to Amazon for a replacement.
