My HP True Vision 5mp Camera is not being recognized by my machine. In the Device Manager, the Device Status is listed as: "This device is working properly." Yes, the camera does not work. I have already tried every available driver from the "select a driver on my pc" menu. I have tried uninstalling the device and restarting my computer. Any assistance would be appreaciated.

Hi @Arnonymous,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Specter Camera Device Working But Not Recognized!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your HP Spectre's True Vision 5MP Camera is listed as “working properly” in Device Manager but is not recognized by applications, try these steps:
Check Privacy Settings
- Go to Windows Settings → Privacy & security → Camera.
- Ensure "Camera access" is ON.
- Scroll down and check "Let apps access your camera" is enabled.
- If using an app like Zoom, Teams, or Skype, make sure it's allowed in the list.
Test with Windows Camera App
- Open the Camera app (press Win + S, type "Camera", and open it).
- If the camera doesn't work, check for error messages.
Restart Windows Camera Service
- Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Scroll down and find Windows Camera Frame Server.
- Right-click → Restart.
- Try using the camera again.
Roll Back or Update Camera Drivers
- Open Device Manager (press Win + X, then select Device Manager).
- Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras → Right-click HP TrueVision Camera.
- Click Properties → Driver tab.
- Try these options one by one:
- Roll Back Driver (if available).
- If not, click Update Driver → Search automatically for drivers.
- If still not working, click Uninstall Device → Restart your laptop.

Enable Camera in BIOS
- Restart your laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS.
- Navigate to Security or Advanced Settings.
- Look for Integrated Camera or Webcam settings.
- Ensure it is Enabled.
- Save changes and exit BIOS.
Try a Different USB Root Hub
- Open Device Manager → Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click USB Root Hub → Disable device, then Enable device.
- Try using the camera again.
Check Windows Updates
- Go to Settings → Windows Update.
- Check for pending updates and install them.
- Restart and test the camera.
Check Third-Party Apps & Antivirus
- If you're using McAfee, Avast, or any antivirus, they may be blocking your webcam.
- Temporarily disable antivirus and check if the camera works.
If none of these steps work, let me know the exact error message (if any) from the Camera app or Device Manager. 😊

When attempting to startup the Windows Camera Frame service, it marks as running for about 30 seconds then stops. I have tried restarting the machine after restarting the service. I have also tried the other steps listed. Do you have any other ideas?
The code is: 0xA00F4244

Hi @Arnonymous,
Thank you for the response.
The 0xA00F4244 Camera Not Found error usually means that Windows can't detect your camera, even if the device is working physically. Since the Windows Camera Frame Server stops running after 30 seconds, try the following steps:
If your camera is missing from Device Manager, click View and enable Show hidden devices. If it's still missing, go to your HP Spectre’s support page and download the latest camera driver from HP Support.
Run Windows Troubleshooter by going to Settings, then Update & Security, and selecting Troubleshoot. Click Additional troubleshooters, select Camera, and run the troubleshooter.
Reset the Camera app by going to Settings, then Apps. Scroll down, select Camera, click Advanced options, and then click Reset. Restart your laptop and check if it works.
If the camera was working before but stopped suddenly, try restoring your system. Press Win + R, type rstrui, and hit Enter. Choose a restore point from when the camera was working and follow the on-screen instructions to restore your system.
Try these steps and let me know if your camera starts working! 😊
