I had no issues at all with my convertible for nearly 3 years and a couple of days ago, I was not able to get the screen to turn on at all!
The computer works just fine plugging it into an external monitor and even though the screen doesn't work, the camera on the screen seems to as it is able to authenticate me. All other keyboard functions are operating as expected.
Any suggestions on repairing this? Can the screen be fixed? Or does it need to be replaced? How do I find authorised repair shops?
Appreciate your help!

Hi @DKP9,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like there might be a hardware issue specifically related to the display or its connection in your HP Spectre x360. Here are some steps and considerations to help diagnose and potentially resolve the issue.
Restart and Power Reset
- Sometimes, a simple restart or a power reset can resolve temporary hardware glitches. Try these steps:
- Shut down the laptop completely.
- Disconnect the power adapter and any peripherals.
- Hold down the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain residual power.
- Reconnect the power adapter and try powering on the laptop.
Check Display Output Settings
- Ensure that the laptop is set to use the built-in display:
- Press the Windows key + P to bring up the display options.
- Select "PC screen only" to see if the laptop screen turns on.
Check for Physical Damage
- Inspect the laptop screen for any physical damage, cracks, or loose connections around the hinge area. Physical damage can sometimes cause display issues.
Update Graphics Drivers
- Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause display problems. To update them:
- Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, right-click on the graphics card driver, and select Update driver.
Perform a System Restore
- If the issue started recently, performing a system restore to a point before the problem occurred might resolve it:
- Type "System Restore" in the Windows search bar and select Create a restore point.
- Click System Restore and follow the prompts to choose a restore point.
Check for BIOS Update
- Sometimes, a BIOS update can address hardware compatibility issues. Check the HP support website for any available BIOS updates for your model.
By following these steps, you can systematically troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue with your HP Spectre x360's screen not turning on.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
