HP Spectre x360 - 15-bl100na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi Folks

I have a HP Spectre x360 - 15-bl100na.

I was wondering which pen to get. Is the tilt pen supported? Is it actually any good? I have heard reviews that say tilt pen functionality doesn't actually exist.

Active Stylus - Compatibility Document

Search the document for a compatible stylus:

HP PCs - Touchscreen Compatibility with Pen and Stylus

  • If there is an HP Active Stylus available for your model, it should be included in the document.
  • Pen(s) compatible with your computer are marked with an “X” to the right of your computer model, in the column(s) under the Pen name / description(s).
  • Additional information can sometimes be found in Advisory Documents for your computer.
  • The document is updated as new information becomes available.

There are two pens listed for your model.

HP Pen (Microsoft)  1MR94AA
HP Tilt Pen (Microsoft)  2MY21AA

x* - Computers that support the HP Pen can also support the HP Tilt Pen, but the tilt performance might not work on older computers.

The "Tilt" pen is marked with the asterisk that means that HP has not tested the tilt pen functionality on this model.  So, yes, it is possible that the reports you have read about the tile functionality (or lack of) are correct.  I cannot personally verify one way or the other.

Pen Control Driver for 1MR94AA is listed in your computer's Software and Driver Website

You are welcome.

The Compatibility document indicates the feature may -- or may not -- work on some notebooks.

My Understanding:  Pens marked with "X*" have not been tested on the model beyond basic stylus functionality.

Ideas

  • If you paid extra for this model, consider returning it for the (other) pen supported for your computer.
  • Alothough there is no evidence to support it making any difference in this case:  In general, things tend to work better when all the HP Drivers are updated and Windows Updates are current.
  • Wait and see if someone responds here - or search the Community and other sources for additional information.
  • Contact HP Tech Support - ask if they have information for your preceise model / pen types.

Note that I do not have any evidence that Tech Support has any more information on the subject than that provided in the public document.   I make the suggestion as a means for you to follow up if you wish to do so.
