HP Spectre x360 13 4007TU
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all, I have a HP Spectre and the touchscreen does not work. I have been following instructions at https://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c03488148 but so far to no avail.

When I rotate or flip back the screen, Windows recognises this and asks if I want to switch to tablet mode. However, when I press on the screen with my finger, no touch is recognised.

I have tried:

  • Checking if there is actually a touch screen (there is, according to the product specs page)
  • Checking device manager, disabling/enabling the device, uninstalling driver and restarting
  • Windows updates (up to date)
  • Restarting
  • UEFI diagnostic tool (touchscreen unresponsive, cannot complete test, cannot output error code - does this indicate a hardware issue?)

Not sure BIOS updates are worth doing if this is a hardware issue. If so, I'll leave it. But if there's an identifiable software issue I'd love to try that before looking into screen replacements or a new laptop.

Thanks so much for your help.

Christian

@tohfu,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Awesome job on diagnosing the issue correctly and performing smart troubleshooting before posting your question on HP forums. Kudos to you on that score.

I see that you have already performed most of the troubleshooting steps. I recommend you download install HP support assistant from the below link and install all the update.

https://www8.hp.com/in/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_in/en/any/psg/p...

Here is how it is done.

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

  6. Perform any other update management actions as needed.

    • Postpone an update: Click Remind me, and then select a time preference.

    • Delete an available update: Click the Delete icon  to remove the update from the list and record it in the action log.

    • Review updates status: Click Action log below the list to view installed, postponed, or deleted updates.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accept as Solution. Your feedback counts!

Cheers!
