Hi @Phnom,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Spectre x360 camera kill switch is stuck in the disable mode or the camera is suddenly missing without any recent changes in hardware or software, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

Restart Your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor software glitches. Restart your HP Spectre x360 and check if the camera starts working again.

Check Device Manager:

  • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
  • Look for the "Imaging devices" category and expand it.
  • If you see your camera listed here, right-click on it and select "Enable" if it's disabled.
  • If it's not listed or there's a yellow exclamation mark next to it, there may be a driver issue.

Update Camera Drivers:

  • Right-click on the camera in Device Manager and select "Update driver."
  • Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" and follow the on-screen instructions to update the driver.
  • After updating, restart your laptop and check if the camera works.

Roll Back Drivers:

  • If updating the driver doesn't help, you can try rolling back the driver to a previous version.
  • Right-click on the camera in Device Manager, select "Properties," go to the "Driver" tab, and click "Roll Back Driver" if the option is available.

Check Privacy Settings:

  • In Windows 10, go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.
  • Make sure "Allow apps to access your camera" is toggled on.
  • Scroll down and ensure that individual apps are allowed to access the camera if needed.

Reset BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Sometimes, BIOS/UEFI settings can affect hardware functionality. Restart your laptop and enter BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing F10, F2, or Del during startup).
  • Look for any settings related to the camera or hardware peripherals and reset them to default.
  • Save changes and exit BIOS/UEFI settings.

Run Hardware Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Select "Hardware and Devices" and run the troubleshooter to detect and fix any hardware-related issues.

Check Physical Connection:

  • If your laptop has an external camera (such as a webcam), ensure it's properly connected to the USB port.
  • If it's an integrated camera, ensure there's no physical damage to the camera module.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the camera issue on your HP Spectre x360.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

This seems to be connected to BIOS update. Another forum suggested to reset the bios by shutting down and  keeping Win+B pressed during reboot. This seemed to solve the problem for some. Before doing this, I decided to run C-Cleaner regular scan and then Registry scan. There were several registry issues found so I pressed fix all issues. I then rebooted normally and the problem was solved. Camera switch and camera now working normally.
