Touchpad not working when tested in BIOS, and hence not
discovered by windows.

Purchased a new one,  replaced it but the problem
not solved.

Any ideas?

Is the problem in the motherboard?

Hi @maxomini,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

You’ve done some solid troubleshooting already. Replacing the touchpad rules out the physical component, so the issue likely lies elsewhere. Here’s what we know:

  • Touchpad not detected in BIOS → This means the system firmware isn’t seeing the device at all, which usually points to:
    • Motherboard issue (touchpad connector or embedded controller failure)
    • Firmware/BIOS corruption
    • Cable or connector damage (even a slight misalignment can cause this)

Steps to Narrow It Down:

  1. Check the Touchpad Ribbon Cable & Connector
    • Ensure the cable is seated properly and not damaged.
    • Inspect the connector on the motherboard for bent pins or debris.

  2. Update or Reflash BIOS
    • Download the latest BIOS for your Spectre X360 from Official HP® Support.
    • Reflash it even if you’re on the latest version; corruption can cause detection failures.

  3. Perform an Embedded Controller Reset
    • Disconnect AC power and battery.
    • Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
    • Reconnect and boot.

  4. Run HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics
    • Boot into HP Diagnostics (press Esc → F2 at startup).
    • Check if the touchpad is listed under input devices.

If Still Not Detected:

Yes, it’s very likely a motherboard issue. Specifically, the touchpad interface circuit or EC (Embedded Controller). Unfortunately, replacing the touchpad won’t help if the board isn’t communicating with it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
