HP Spectre

Similar to complaints from others over the last few years, I have a HP Spectre (Black/Gold one from 2016) and the bottom case is slowly opening on the right. I cannot snap it back into place. I did not drop or damage it. Is there a way to get a replacement bottom case? I am seeing some people talk about swollen batteries. Is this the cause? Suggestions on where to send for repairs (Chicago area). Thank you!

Yes, the underlying cause of the issue could be the battery is deformed / swollen.

All batteries die, some do so quietly and some first inflate and then fail.

The only way to know, of course, is to open the case and look at it.

If the battery is swollen, it must be removed from the computer and replaced to prevent further damage to the computer case and other components in the computer.

"Fat" Battery / Bloated Battery / Swollen Battery – Sealed / Internal Battery

  • If the battery is in a swollen or bloated condition, the battery must be removed from the computer and replaced.
  • There are no other remedies, tests, or useful options.
