Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Providing a solution rather than seeking help. I did something sudden with the mouse (clicked or dragged on something) while on a website and the screen suddenly went a bit lighter and a fine mist or haze appeared over the whole screen. Was like a fine net curtain, the image behind it was still clear, no blurring or change in resolution, but was a real strain on the eyes and was directional (if you viewed screen at a slight angle you couldn't see anything). BUT... I FOUND THE SOLUTION. After much fruitless tinkering with the display settings I followed the 2-step advice given by the HP Virtual Assistant and 1) updated the graphics driver (didn't solve the problem) then b) updated the BIOS (making sure I had a copy of the BitLocker encryption key code). The BIOS update solved the problem. On retstarting the machine the display was back to normal.

I've had the same problem twice since I posted the above solutiuin in this forum (seems to have been archived now, hence repeating it above). Both times it seemed to be, as above, when I pressed several keys at once, e.g. when dusting the keyboard (probably best done with device switced off,I know). However on these last two occasions I found a much simpler solution than above. On the first occasion I inadvertently happened to let the laptop battery run right down such that the machine shut down, and when I connected it to the power cable and restarted it, the problem had gone away. I tried this the second time, first turning off the battery saver setting, and it worked yet again! Happy days!

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are getting issues with the notebook screen, I am glad to assist you.

In the future, if you get such issues, follow the steps mentioned here for a permanent fix:-

Update the Bios, chipset, and drivers using HP Support Assistant.

Download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: Click here

  • HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook
  • Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  • Click Updates in the My notebook pane
  • Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  • Updates list in HP Support Center
  • Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  • Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  • Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also, ensure Windows is up to date.

  • Select the Start  button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update , and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Let me know how it goes.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.
