HP Spectre lid closed sometimes shuts down, sometimes sleeps

When I close the lid to my HP Spectre, sometimes it shuts down completely, sometimes it restarts, and sometimes it just sleeps.  There is no way to predict what is going to happen and "what happens when the lid closes" does not have an option that addresses my need.  It is always a surprise when I open the lid to find out if the programs I left open the night before are still there.  Also, sometimes the computer will wake back up and look for and sometimes I have to press the power button.  No rhyme, no reason.

Let me check your current system configuration before we focus on the shutdown/sleep problem ...

(1) Run    msinfo32
