I recently sent my laptop to HP to have the display replaced. It came back working fine, but after a few days, I noticed that if you leave the computer on for a couple of minutes the screen will start flashing gray. The first few times it goes away quickly, but after a while longer it stays gray unless you move the cursor. Is there any remedy to this?

Hi @KendallOkoroigw,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Spectre's screen is flashing gray at times, there could be a few possible reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or incompatible graphics drivers can sometimes cause display issues. Visit the HP support website to download and install the latest graphics drivers for your HP Spectre model.
- Adjust Display Settings: Incorrect display settings can also lead to screen flickering or flashing. Try adjusting the screen resolution, refresh rate, and color settings to see if it resolves the problem. You can access these settings through the Control Panel or the display settings on your operating system.
- Disable Adaptive Brightness: Some HP laptops have a feature called "adaptive brightness" that automatically adjusts the screen brightness based on ambient light conditions. This feature can sometimes cause screen flickering. To disable it, go to the Power Options in the Control Panel and look for the adaptive brightness setting. Turn it off and see if the issue persists.
- Check for Loose Connections: Ensure that all the cable connections between your HP Spectre and the monitor are secure and not loose. If you are using an external monitor, try reconnecting the cables or using a different cable to rule out any potential connectivity issues.
- Run Hardware Diagnostics: HP Spectre laptops often come with built-in hardware diagnostic tools. You can access these tools by pressing the appropriate function key during startup or through the BIOS settings. Running a hardware diagnostic can help identify any underlying hardware issues that might be causing the screen flickering.
- Update BIOS: A outdated BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) can sometimes cause display problems. Check the HP support website for any available BIOS updates for your specific HP Spectre model and follow the instructions to update it if necessary.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
